2 excellent days of snowsports last week enjoyed by an impressive 300 or so members. Sadly the snow then dissapeared, and although we did get a bit more we didnt have tow operators available to run the tows. We only have a small group of people able to run the tows and have put the call out for more that are interested. If that is you please contact info@skiweardale.com and we will happily discuss what is involved Lastly the season is not yet finished, we have had significant snow well in to April before, a few member spaces are still available too Join hereUpdate By - J

Snow is forecast on Thursday and Friday morning so we are hoping to run the tows on both Friday andSaturday. However the forecasts have been variable so we will update once we see whether it arrives. We managed a remarkable 7 days skiing in an 8 day period last month, even more surprising as there had only been 6-8cm snow. A combination of the effectiveness of our snow fencing, the cold temperatures and compacting the snow by skiing on it gave us such good conditions. Being in a north facing bowl also helps.Hopefully more snow will not be too far away but in the meantime the newsletter should have been received by all members. Please note that the links on this site are not working properly at the moment but should be sorted out in the next few daysUpdate By - J

We have had 3 very good days skiing this week and plan to run the tows on Wednesday 18th Jan from about 10am. The cover is thin but still skiable, especially on the lower slopes which are all open. The road is a bit icy at the top - winter tyres recommended. Members only but the good news is that membership is still open for the time beingUpdate By - J

WSC membership is rapidly filling. We are over 80% full and once we reach our capacity we will close to any further memberships. If you are keen to ski with us this season please do not leave it too late. There is a link to membership on the front page of www.skiweardale.comUpdate By - J

Winter is approaching and membership renewals have opened up at WSC. As in previous years those who were members last season can renew before the 1st October and pay the reduced rate of £38 per adult for the new season as long as you renew before 1st October after which the joining fee will be £48 per adult. On the 1st October we will open up to new member applications and the discounted rate no longer applies and places will be on a first come first serve basis. Once we reach our limit we will no longer process any further applications so if you intend skiing this season then don't leave it too long.Update By - J

Day 6 We managed a good few hours skiing today before the warmer weather took its toll and melted the snow. Although the cover was thin, all the runs on F1 skied quite well but F2 was quite a challenge and we did not run it for long. We had a few challengers for "Impressive visitor of the day" which included 2 board members from Lake District ski club including their President Mike and board member David but prize goes to Matt Petnzy who caught a train up from London, met his friend at Northallerton who had driven down from Edinburgh and both arrived to enjoy a morning skiing. And to think I live less than 10 miles away and was in 2 minds whether to bother going up! Needless to say I am pleased I did as were the other 20+ members.Update By - J

50 people had a great day, far better than anything expected with virtually all the runs open, some excellent mogul skiing on F1 and the sunny afternoon capped off the day. Today would have been difficult for the less experienced however. Update By - J

Wed 8th December 2021 7:00am
Day 4 30+ members enjoyed another good day on Swinhope Moor today, our 4th day skiing so far this season. F1 main run was well covered and most of the other runs on F1 were skiable though lots of grass showing - it wouldn't be Weardale skiing without grass! F2 was also skiable but more tricky though several routes down were found including the first descent of the main gully where there was an impressive cornice near Black Scar.Update By - J

Day 4 We had a great day skiing with Alpine conditions on F1 but sadly it is our last day until restrictions are eased which will hopefully be in February. We do often get snow through to mid April when in some years we have had our best skiing conditions with total cover and sunny days. So all is not lost but collectively if we all keep socially distanced, our fingers crossed and get this virus under control we will be back out there. Stay safe everyone.Update By - J

Day 1 - 25 members turned up today for what proved a challenging day skiing. All the main runs were skiable, just, but it was rather hard work with a lot of grass, crusty snow, slush, ice and a bit of mud thrown in. It did improve a little after lunch by which time most people had left. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and the bonus was a nice clear road up so no access issues today. Our club secretary, Geoff, said to me today that we are a grass roots sport and we proved that statement to be true with a true display of North Pennines grass skiing at its best.Update By - J

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic have made a decision not to issue day passes this season. This decision has been made so that we can limit numbers to ensure social distancing and also to reduce the workload and potential risks to tow operators who will be busy with other precautions. As a result you will need to be a member of WSC to ski with us - the only exception being members of Raise, Yad Moss and Allenheads with whom we have a reciprocal arrangement but please note that this only applies on weekdays and does not include weekends or Bank holidays. We have put in place many precautions to ensure that we are as Covid secure as possible and details will be emailed to all members before the season starts.Update By - J
